When I saw this iguana at the edge of our pool I almost fell over. Though we have had our house since 1999, this is the first iguana I have ever seen there. I knew there must be one around because I have found a few large piles of reptile poo, but this is the first time I have seen one in our yard.
We came to St. Maarten/St. Martin in 1997 and I never saw iguanas anywhere for the first 5 years at least. Hurricane Luis in 1995 helped to lessen the wildlife population on the island. 16 years later iguanas are much more common, and I am thrilled to play host to one.
